At La Castagneta, creativity and a love of the past combine at every stage of preparation, from the sourcing of seasonal ingredients to their processing, right up to plating and serving. Every dish is accompanied by an expert pairing with local DOCG wines – including, naturally, the multi-award-winning Morellino di Scansano – and presented in the informal atmosphere of a private indoor dining room with fireplace or on the veranda, with romantic views over the Scansano countryside and the gentle hills of Maremma.
The restaurant is open to the public for lunch and dinner.
Antipasti, in the humble tradition of cucina povera, are bruschette made with baby tomatoes, garlic, local mushrooms or seasonal vegetables and the distinctive aromatic flavour of extra virgin olive oil; or the celebrated Crostino Toscano.
Home-made pasta, tagliatelle, tagliolini, gnocchi, tortelli, brigoli and pappardelle – traditional soups with mixed mushrooms, mediterranean vegetables, chickpeas or beans, the famous Acquacotta and the exclusive Zuppa del Casale form the basis of our first courses, typical of the Maremma region.
To follow we offer grilled meats served on a hotplate, delicious dishes based on wild boar, Cinto Toscano pork or Chianina beef, all traditional in our local Tuscan cuisine.
Desserts are strictly home-made, of course: our own panna cotta with cream of woodland berries and the typical tozzetti biscuits served with vin santo.
To accompany these traditional Tuscan dishes, you have to try our area’s most famous wine: the pleasant red Morellino di Scansano.
For anyone who loves the products of our Tuscan hills but who insists on authentic vegetarian cooking, we suggest grilled vegetables, sformati and cheeses… delicious local dishes that always feature on our menus.
We pay special attention to the needs of guests with specific dietary intolerances or preferences.
